Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin will nominate a candidate to replace Zuraida Kamaruddin in the Cabinet following her resignation from the party earlier today, Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan says.

In a Facebook post, Wan Saiful also said that Zuraida’s decision to leave Bersatu came as no surprise.

“Bersatu had in fact discussed her position after taking into account her recent behaviour,” he said.

“A show-cause letter was also issued, and the political bureau had made a ruling on her position in the party.

“In a situation where the entire country is talking about the importance of political stability, it appears that Zuraida has acted solely in her own interests,” he added.

Zuraida, the Ampang MP, announced this morning her decision to leave Bersatu and to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia instead.

She also said she would meet with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob as soon as possible to discuss her resignation as plantation industries and commodities minister.

Zuraida was initially part of PKR, which she joined at its founding in 1999, becoming head of the women’s wing.

She quit the party in 2020 alongside a dozen other MPs to join the coalition led by Muhyiddin where she was appointed to Bersatu’s Supreme Council.
