Nearly 2,000 evacuated amid Kedah floods

The number of flood victims in Kedah has continued to rise.

The number of flood victims at relief centres (PPS) in Kedah recorded an increase this morning, while in Perlis, the number went down.

In Kedah, the number of flood victims increased to 1,908 people from 576 families compared to 1,813 people from 530 families last night.

Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain, head of the Kedah disaster management secretariat of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), said the evacuees were being accommodated at 15 PPS in  Kubang Pasu (three), Pokok Sena (three), Baling (four) and Kota Setar (five).

The PPS in Kubang Pasu are at SMK Changlun, SK Malau and Dewan PPK Lubuk Batu, while in Pokok Sena, they are at SK Bukit Hijau, Maahad Tarbiyah Derang and SK Permatang Limau.

In Baling, the PPS are at SK Iboi, SMK Jerai, SK Kampung Keda and Surau Annur, while the five PPS in Kota Setar are at SK Taman Aman, SMK Kepala Batas, SK Seri Gunung, SK Titi Gajah and SMK Alor Merah.

In Perlis, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 44 people from 48 yesterday.

Perlis APM director Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said the evacuees, from 16 families, were being accommodated at the PPS at SK Kubang Gajah.

They are from Kampung Kubang Gajah and Alor Ara, he said when contacted by Bernama.
