Khairy Jamaluddin has launched a scathing attack on Lim Kit Siang over the DAP veteran's passing mention of the attorney-general's controversial decision to halt the corruption trial of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The former Umno leader was referring to a 500-word statement on Sept 15 – the first from Lim since the discharge not amounting to an acquittal, or DNAA was granted to Zahid early this month – in which he made a one-liner mention of being "stunned" by the decision.

"Is that it? You have had so much to say about everything throughout your career, and you are now reduced to this?" Khairy asked.

"The rest, he blames Perikatan Nasional for allegedly dividing the people. Way to go, Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, in cleansing DAP's newest political BFF."

Lim is the latest DAP leader to come under attack over the party's muted stand on the DNAA granted to Zahid.

Khairy had earlier angered DAP leaders by calling the party Umno's "running dog".

"Reduced to what they used to accuse MCA of being. A running dog and enabler of abuse of power," he said in an Instagram post responding to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, adding that DAP had "no more red lines".

Zahid, the Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman, had faced 12 counts of criminal breach of trust, eight of corruption, and 27 of money laundering involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to the charity foundation.

He was given the DNAA on Sept 4 after deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar informed the judge of the request by the Attorney-General's Chambers to discontinue all proceedings against him.
