A former aide to the wife of Anwar Ibrahim has been appointed as chairman of Cyberview Sdn Bhd, a government company owned by the finance ministry which is also headed by the prime minister, in yet another political appointment.

Romli Ishak served as the political secretary to Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail when she was the deputy prime minister during the Pakatan Harapan administration of Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He later became the political secretary of the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar.

Cyberview is tasked with developing Cyberjaya, the township created as part of Mahathir's initiative to attract technology companies in the late 1990s.

The appointment of Romli, who is part of PKR's Central Leadership Council, was announced on the same day that Anwar named the father of one of his political secretaries as the head of MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd, another finance ministry-owned company.

Fauzi Abdul Rahman, a former PKR MP, is the father of Farhan Fauzi, Anwar's political secretary at the Prime Minister's Office.

"With over seven years of experience in corporate governance and 15 years as a technology entrepreneur, Dato' Romli's passion for entrepreneurship and talent development has made him a sought-after mentor and adviser in the tech and innovation industry," Cyberview said in welcoming Romli's appointment yesterday.
