MCA president Wee Ka Siong has criticised the quality of food prepared for flood victims in Johor, where more than 50,000 were evacuated to relief centres last week.

In a video uploaded on social media, the Ayer Hitam MP said the food was of poor quality and also delivered late.

"Breakfast is delivered at 11am. What breakfast is at 11am?

"And the side dishes for lunch are so little," he said during a recent visit to the flood victims at Sekolah Agama Taman Kota Yong Peng.

MCA is a component party of Barisan Nasional, which joined hands with Pakatan Harapan, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and several other parties to form the present coalition government.

Wee said the same thing had happened in Sri Manggis, where lunch was delivered at 2pm.

He said his people were already discussing how to provide food for the flood victims themselves.

"This should not be happening," he said. "Even if we cook the food ourselves, don't give food like this."

The former transport minister said there were 22 temporary relief centres in his constituency in need of quality food.

He also urged the welfare department to improve the quality of food given.

Other states affected by the floods included Pahang, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently said there was no need to declare a state of emergency in Johor as the situation there was under control.
