The education ministry will reschedule the 2022 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination for 431 candidates who are stranded and unable to reach their designated examination centre or nearby centre due to floods.

In a statement today, the ministry said the examination board (LP) was in the midst of collecting the details of the affected candidates.

"The rescheduling of the exam will be implemented after getting confirmation from the state education director," it said.

The ministry said the continuous heavy rain yesterday had affected 17 examination centres in Johor, Pahang and Sarawak, seven of which were unable to open after the roads to the centres were cut off.

It said that 195 flood-affected candidates in Johor and Pahang had been moved to nearby examination centres with the help of government agencies to sit for the exam.

The ministry said that the management of the 2022 SPM examination in a flood situation was based on the Circular on the Preparedness of Floods that Threaten the Examination Process (Op Payung) No. 1/2001.

As of this morning, a total of 27,467 flood victims had been evacuated to relief centers in five flood-affected states, namely Johor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Sabah and Melaka.

The education ministry also advised SPM candidates to immediately inform their schools or state education departments if they are stranded.

Candidates can also contact the flood operations room at the LP headquarters and the state education departments.
