The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain in the Klang Valley until early this afternoon.

In a statement on Facebook, it said storms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Selangor (Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang), Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 2pm.

It said such warnings are issued when there are signs of impending storms with rain intensities exceeding 20mm per hour or storms of this nature that are expected to continue for more than an hour.

"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue," it added.
