PAS has slammed DAP's Hannah Yeoh over her warning to an audience of non-Malays that any decision not to support Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the coming polls amounted to punishing themselves.

PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar was referring to a viral clip of a speech by Yeoh in which she warned voters in Selangor against "punishing" PH.

"You are not punishing Pakatan Harapan. You are punishing yourselves if you choose to give away a PKR menteri besar you have today and exchange it with a PAS menteri besar. You are not punishing me; you are punishing your grandchildren and your kids in Selangor.

"You only have three states... we have everything to lose. We must safeguard these three states. You must go out like defenders, precious states with precious reserves, precious resources kept all these years for emergency use," Yeoh said during a campaign event.

Describing her speech as "despicable", Samsuri said Yeoh's depiction of PH's political rivals was a threat to racial harmony.

"Such a campaign repeats once again the unhealthy political campaign made by Lim Guan Eng, who said that if the green wave wins, then the temples will be demolished," he said, referring to Lim's controversial speech in Penang last month, for which the DAP chairman has been the subject of an investigation into sedition.

Police have yet to announce whether charges will be brought against Lim after more than a month since the probe was launched.

Samsuri said the same rules should apply to everyone "whether you are the ruling government or the opposition".

"I take the opportunity today to invite and advise political leaders to not use this kind of menacing political campaign and to campaign in a healthy and mature manner to ensure that racial harmony can be maintained.

"I also hope that the people of Malaysia are not bought by this kind of politics, which insults the intellectuals of the people and is not civilised. This out-of-date political culture needs to be stopped," he added.
