Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) Selangor chairman Mohamed Azmin Ali today said the coalition is leading in seats numbers in Selangor ahead of the upcoming state elections.

Azmin, who is also Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman, said the data is based on a report submitted to Putrajaya by the police.

He added that the report has caused Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari to feel anxious and delay announcing the dissolution of the Selangor state assembly.

"As of last night, based on the report submitted to Putrajaya by the police, PN is ahead in terms of seat numbers in Selangor," he said at the Selangor Baharu Perikatan Nasional Gempur Kuala Langat event.

"That's why Amirudin finds it difficult to announce the dissolution date. That one day is crucial for him; it's a lifeline for him. But the date has been announced. We will work hard and record another success. God willing, PN will seize Selangor."

Yesterday, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah consented to the dissolution of the Selangor state assembly on June 23 to pave the way for the state elections.

There are 56 seats in the Selangor state assembly, with 41 held by Pakatan Harapan, seven by PN, five by Barisan Nasional and three by Pejuang.

Azmin meanwhile described the announcement of the dissolution of the state assembly by the palace as peculiar, as it is usually announced by the menteri besar.

"Many people asked me why the palace is announcing it. It's because those in the office on the 21st floor are sluggish. They lack self-confidence. Others have already made the announcement, but you (the menteri besar) haven't. So let me make the announcement," Azmin said on his reason for announcing the dissolution date earlier.
