Daily Covid infections top 1,000

Daily Covid-19 cases passed the 1,000-mark on April 29, with 1,050 reported infections taking total confirmed cases in the country to 5,071,840.

The daily caseload came against a backdrop of 2,503 reported tests, meaning a positivity rate of 15.5%.

There were 600 recoveries, taking total recoveries to 5,020,529.

There are now 14,291 active cases, of which 13,371 or 93.6% are undergoing home quarantine and 891 (6.2%) have been hospitalised. 

A total of 29 are in ICU with 22 in need of respiratory assistance. 

No new deaths were reported, leaving total deaths unchanged at 37,020.

The health ministry has repeatedly said that the country's Covid-19 situation is under control, with daily caseloads beneath the 1,000-mark since December 2022.
