Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Mohd Nor has been banned from attending any event organised by the federal government including the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (Lima 2023) in May.

An official at the office of the Kedah menteri besar confirmed this when contacted by MalaysiaNow.

"What the menteri besar has shared on Facebook so far is true," the official said, adding however that there was no further information on the ban imposed on Sanusi.

Sanusi had said in a Facebook post that this was "the latest decision" by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's Cabinet.

"The latest decision by PMX – banning the Kedah MB from any government event including Lima in Langkawi," he said, referring to Anwar's initials as the 10th prime minister.

MalaysiaNow has contacted the organiser of Lima 2023 for confirmation and further details on the matter.

Lima, a military exhibition organised by the defence ministry, began during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's first tenure as prime minister.

A number of Facebook users criticised the move, describing it as unprofessional on the part of the coalition government led by Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.

Others questioned it, calling a "peculiar decision".

Still others suggested that the exhibition be held in another state if the menteri besar himself was banned from making an appearance.

Anwar previously sued Sanusi for raising the issue of his sodomy case.

Sanusi however defended his remarks, saying he had only referred to facts based on publicly available court documents.
