The main road from Genting Sempah to Bukit Tinggi remained closed today following the mud floods caused by heavy rain in the area yesterday evening, although police said the situation was now under control.

When contacted, the Bukit Tinggi police said that road users could follow an alternative route until the main road is reopened to the public.

"The road will go from SMK Bukit Tinggi to the BHP petrol station," a spokesman said.

"At the fork, turn right and continue to Bukit Tinggi."

Footage of the floods had gone viral on social media yesterday, as road users tried to make their way through the affected area.

The majority of the travellers were tourists who had gone to the holiday hotspots of Bukit Tinggi and Janda Baik in Pahang.

However, no evacuations have been made, and no fatal accidents reported.

Residents said heavy rain was continuing intermittently, while some drivers whose vehicles were left stranded by the floods are still awaiting assistance.
