Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Sultan Abdullah has congratulated Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as Malaysia's 10th prime minister in a social media post accompanied by the #reformasi hashtag that has been the PKR president's slogan for more than two decades.

The congratulatory post on Tengku Hassanal's Instagram account was accompanied by a picture believed to have been uploaded after the 260th Conference of Rulers in Kuala Lumpur today.

"From prisoner to prime minister, it has been a difficult road for you and the path ahead will be even more challenging," he said.

"Congratulations and good luck @anwaribrahim_my #reformasi."

Anwar, the Pakatan Harapan chairman, was sworn in as prime minister on Nov 24 after receiving the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

His appointment ended days of political turmoil sparked by the inconclusive results of the Nov 19 polls which saw no single coalition winning enough seats to form the government with a simple majority.
