Election Commission (EC) chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh today said that the election for Padang Serai will be postponed to Dec 7, following the death of Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the seat.

He said the polls for the parliamentary seat would need to be rescheduled, and would not be held alongside the rest at the 15th general election tomorrow.

Nomination for Padang Serai will be held on Nov 24.

PKR man M Karupaiya died on Nov 16, days before the general election on Nov 19.

Karupaiya had faced a six-way fight at the upcoming polls, with Hamzah Abd Rahman (Pejuang), C Sivaraj (Barisan Nasional), Azman Nasrudin (Perikatan Nasional), Mohd Bakhri Hashim (Warisan) and independent candidate Sreanandha Rao.
