Businesses in Ipoh have been told to fly the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with National Day or face a RM250 fine.

Business owners in Ipoh will be slapped with a RM250 fine if they refuse to comply with the instructions to fly the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with this year's National Day celebration.

Ipoh mayor Rumaizi Baharin said the compound would be issued in accordance with the general conditions written at the back of business premise licences under Section 107(2) of the Local Government Act.

"To enliven the celebrations this time, we have issued 6,000 flag installation notices to private premises in Ipoh and hoisted more than 5,000 Jalur Gemilang along the main streets and around Ipoh city.

"We will monitor these premises regularly, usually a week before National Day, but all this time, the Ipoh City Council is still being tolerant by giving advice instead of issuing compounds," he said after launching the 2022 MBI-level Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign at Persiaran Bandaraya today.
