Bersatu’s Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin today confirmed submitting an application to join Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), the party led by Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg.

Speaking at an event in Kuching today, he said he submitted the application several months ago.

“I submitted an application to join a local party with the hope that they would accept it,” Willie said.

Adding that he had been “technically parked” under Bersatu in order to bring in support for the government of the day, he said he was still behind the present administration and voiced gratitude for the assistance he had received so far.

“I would like to continue serving the people, and I am very thankful because I’m now in the government,” he said.

“We have brought a lot of assistance and development to the constituency, and I hope this will continue.”

Asked if he thought his application would be approved, Willie said he hoped PBB would accept him as a member given his contributions to his constituency.

“I leave it to the leadership, it is up to them,” he added. “It’s up to the top leadership to see how sincerely I have been working and serving the people.

“If they think I am the right one to represent the people in Puncak Borneo, I would appreciate it if they could consider that.”

Willie contested the Puncak Borneo seat on a PKR ticket in the 2018 general election.

He joined Bersatu in 2020, in the wake of the Sheraton Move which saw the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration.
