The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain alert for Perlis, Kedah, Penang and the Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama areas in Perak until today.

In a statement, MetMalaysia director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said this follows the movement of the tropical depression observed in the waters of Sumatera to the east, approaching the north of the peninsula.

“This situation can cause continuous rain and strong winds in the northern states, which could cause floods in low-lying areas,” he said.
