At least one student from UiTM Lendu in Alor Gajah has tested positive for Covid-19 after attending a programme at a resort believed to be organised by Barisan Nasional (BN) in conjunction with the Melaka state election.

Melaka health director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said seven students were screened for the virus after attending the programme.

“Yesterday, we were informed that seven people had symptoms of Covid-19. The results of saliva-based tests found one student positive for the virus,” he told MalaysiaNow.

Adding that UiTM had isolated those who attended the programme, he said 40 have so far been screened with the investigation ongoing.

Claims had been circulating on social media that seven UiTM students tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from a programme organised by Melaka BN from Nov 4 to 7.

Barisan Nasional leaders including deputy president Mohamad Hasan and former prime minister Najib Razak in another picture making the rounds.

“All of the students returned to campus on the seventh after the end of the programme at Villa D Aqua, Masjid Tanah, Melaka,” read a post making the rounds accompanied by pictures of the event.

“When they returned to campus, out of dozens of students, seven were found to be positive for Covid-19,” it said.

According to the post, the following day on Nov 10, BN supporters had gathered at the villa to have breakfast before going to the nomination centre together with Melaka chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Also present that morning was former prime minister Najib Razak and Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan, who were there in a show of support for Rauf.

MalaysiaNow’s efforts to reach BN for comment have yet to receive a response.
