Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) chairman Rais Hussin has announced his resignation, saying the decision was based on principles.

MDEC is a GLC under the communications and multimedia ministry headed by Annuar Musa.

Rais, who was involved in Bersatu, was appointed to head MDEC in June 2020, three months after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.

In a statement, he said he had made known his intention to step down to Annuar in August.

“It would have been much easier to just ‘follow’ instructions from the shareholder ministry and/or the supervisory ministry, but that would be tantamount to a huge battle of conscience.

“I have always believed in doing the right thing anchored on the right principles. Anything less would have crossed the red lines that I have drawn for myself,” he said.
