Bersatu has appointed Segamat MP Edmund Santhara as the first leader of its associate members wing.

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the decision was made unanimously by the party’s Supreme Council chaired by its president Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday.

“The council believes his appointment will attract the membership of many more associate members and boost the support of the people from all walks of life for Bersatu,” he said in a statement.

He also said that Bersatu’s annual general assembly will be held in December, running from Dec 18 to 19.

“The assembly will be held in a physical capacity, virtually or in a hybrid setting, depending on the approval given and the SOPs set by the authorities,” he said.

The setting up of the associate member wing was seen as a move to consolidate Bersatu’s parliamentary among non-Bumiputera MPs who quit PKR during the political crisis of 2020.
