The Election Commission (EC) is making careful plans for the possibility of a general election in the post Covid-19 period, says law minister Takiyuddin Hassan.

He said this was important for ensuring a safe and smooth election process.

“The EC in collaboration with the health ministry and the National Security Council has drafted and prepared Covid-19 prevention guidelines for the implementation of elections for a general election or by-election.

“These guidelines will be adapted in accordance with the current movement control order under Act 342 which was enforced by the government during previous elections, namely the Chini and Slim by-elections and the 16th Sabah election,” he said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill 2021 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said the Covid-19 prevention measures include cleaning and disinfecting surfaces at all premises to be used for election purposes, attendance control and the mandatory use of rubber gloves by all election officials on duty.
