A total of 67 students from a school in Ampang have been called to undergo swab tests for Covid-19 after a teacher was confirmed to have the virus.

The students from Year 5 and 6 of Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Tasik were told to go for the tests at the health clinics in Beranang and Hulu Langat.

It is understood that the teacher contracted the virus from a housemate.

“The friend had earlier travelled from Kedah,” said a source.

Yesterday, Kedah topped the number of new infections nationwide in a series of daily spikes with 241 cases, overtaking Sabah where a cluster involving a police lock-up in Lahad Datu was blamed for the rise in new cases.

The health ministry yesterday reported a record high of 432 cases, the most since the pandemic started in Malaysia early this year.

Schools nationwide re-opened in phases in July after being shut down for more than three months under the movement control order.
