The battle for Hulu Kelang

Mohamed Azmin Ali, the former menteri besar of Selangor, will be running for the seat of Hulu Kelang.

Going down to the ground to meet with voters is an integral part of any election campaign.

Azmin goes from place to place in Hulu Kelang, greeting as many voters as he can before the election.

Come nightfall, he is busy with ceramahs or political talks.

Such events will continue until the end of the two-week campaign period.

Azmin gestures with two other Perikatan Nasional candidates: Sasha Lyna Abdul Latif (second right) who is running for the Bukit Antarabangsa seat, and Fazil Mohamad Dali, popularly known as Ayah Che Ton (left), who is contesting in Pandan Indah.

A motorcyclist circles a roundabout in Hulu Kelang, decorated with flags and banners featuring the faces of the two contenders, Azmin and Juwairiya Zulkifli, the political secretary to Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.

Juwairiya is no stranger to the constituency either, having served as the assemblyman for Bukit Melawati, a position which she took in 2018.

Her campaign trail includes a visit to a single mother who earns a meagre living taking care of children.

At another stop, she speaks to an elderly woman who lives with seven other family members in a cramped home.

Juwairiya makes her way through the drizzle from block to block of the low-cost apartment in Keramat.

She also visits another senior citizen who has been confined to bed by ill health.

Juwairiya and the accompanying election workers continue their tour of the apartments, determined to meet as many voters as they can before polling day.
