Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in his latest attack against Dr Mahathir Mohamad, today slammed the former leader as desperate over his recent views on Malaysia's multiracialism.

He said Mahathir was trying to be relevant again.

"The ex-PM has lost his seat in Langkawi. I don't think we should take him seriously. It's his last desperate attempt to be seen, to be relevant.

"I'm going to make him irrelevant; I'm not going to comment on that," he said when asked about his response to Mahathir's series of statements that Malaysia is essentially a Malay country.

Mahathir, who turns 98 today, also recently argued that the constitution has never defined Malaysia as a multicultural nation, triggering strong reactions from Pakatan Harapan leaders.

Anwar said the constitution was "very clear on the position of the Malays, but it's also clear on protecting the welfare of all citizens in this country and the future for all Malaysians".

He then trained his guns on "corrupt leaders" who "abused power and enriched themselves".

"They are all billionaires, and their children are billionaires.

"If it's true they want to help the Malays, then they should surrender half their wealth to the Malays," he said.
