Perikatan Nasional (PN) is considering legal action against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over his suggestion that revenue from gambling activities might have been used to fund election campaigns, component party PAS said today.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the party greatly regretted the "defamatory accusations" made by Anwar which he added had no basis.

"PAS demands that the Pakatan Harapan prime minister provide concrete proof of his wild accusations, if he has any.

"If he does not, PN will consider legal action to be taken against all defamatory parties," he said in a statement.

Anwar had made the suggestion at a press conference after chairing his first Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya yesterday, without naming any parties or politicians.

"Certainly, the funds would have been used to finance elections but need to check on that," he was quoted as saying by The Malay Mail.
