Khairy expects to be fielded in opposition-held seat

He says he is almost certain to be sent to an area held by the opposition that is 'not considered a safe seat'.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today indicated that he could be contesting a parliamentary seat currently held by a non-Barisan Nasional (BN) party in the 15th general election (GE15).

While the seat has yet to be finalised and is being evaluated by BN's top leadership, Khairy nevertheless confirmed it would be a constituency won by an opposition party.

"It is almost sure that I will be sent to an area held by the opposition party and almost sure it is not considered a safe seat," he told reporters in Seremban today.

Khairy, a three-term MP for Rembau, is giving way to Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan to contest in his constituency. 

Mohamad had reportedly assured that a suitable seat would be found for Khairy in GE15, saying he would not allow the health minister to "fade away" as he was a young leader of 

Khairy said he was ready to accept the challenge and take on the responsibility entrusted to him by the party to capture the seat in GE15.

Asked if the seat was in Negeri Sembilan, Khairy declined to reveal details, saying: "Various states, nothing is final. We wait."

The Election Commission has set Nov 19 for polling day with nomination day on Nov 5 and early voting on Nov 15.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament on Oct 10 to pave the way for GE15 after receiving the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
