Najib Razak has discharged solicitors Messrs Zaid Ibrahim Suflan TH Liew (ZIST) from representing him in his final appeal against his conviction and sentence for the misappropriation of RM42 million in the SRC International case, lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik told the Federal Court today.

This comes a day after Hisyam sought to discharge himself from representing the former prime minister, saying he needed more time as he was unprepared to take on the case.

However, the five-man bench led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat unanimously denied his request, leaving him as Najib's counsel on record.

"Proceed," Tengku Maimun said after Hisyam informed the judges of the matter, following which ad hoc prosecutor V Sithambaram began his submissions.

Najib, the Pekan MP, appointed ZIST to represent him in his final appeal on July 26 after discharging Messrs Shafee & Co with immediate effect.

He also appointed Hisyam, from Messrs Hisyam Teh, as his lead counsel, replacing Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.
