Pakatan Harapan (PH) today announced Adly Zahari as its candidate for Melaka chief minister if the coalition succeeds in forming the state government at the Nov 20 polls, ending speculation over whom the bloc would put forth as its choice for the top role.

PH had previously been seen as wavering between several names including Idris Haron, another former chief minister, and Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin who is contesting in Paya Rumput.

PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim, who made the announcement, said he was confident that the coalition would be able to form the state government without needing to negotiate with Barisan Nasional or Perikatan Nasional.

“We will try for solid strength so that there is no interference from certain parties.

“All parties will work together to ensure success for PH’s 28 candidates,” he told reporters after announcing the coalition’s candidate for chief minister and its manifesto for the Melaka election.

Earlier today, Adly failed to obtain leave from the High Court to stop the Melaka polls.

The judge, in dismissing Adly’s leave application, ruled that the decision by Melaka Governor Mohd Ali Rustam to dissolve the state assembly was non-justiciable and consequently not amenable for judicial review.

Adly, who is Melaka PH chairman, will defend his Bukit Katil seat in a four-way fight on Nov 20.
