Four Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) personnel were killed in a shooting incident at the RMAF camp in Kota Samarahan, Kuching, early today.

Sarawak police commissioner Aidi Ismail confirmed the incident, saying further investigations are ongoing.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Sudirman Kram meanwhile said the incident occurred at the guard station.

He said in a statement that the suspect had entered the area and taken down a gun which he then began to load.

“His colleagues tried to calm him down but he proceeded to shoot one of the victims in the abdomen.

“After the first shot, the rest fled to save themselves.”

It is understood that there were eight personnel at the station at the time. Another two were shot, following which the suspect took his own life.

Sudirman said the suspect had served in the RMAF for 10 years and was found to have no social problems with his friends.

The RMAF meanwhile urged all quarters to refrain from speculating until the police have concluded their investigation.

“We will also set up an investigation board to determine the cause of the incident,” it said.
