Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Takiyuddin Hassan received a surprise royal gesture today in the form of a get-well gift from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, MalaysiaNow has learnt.

It is understood that Istana Negara sent a bouquet of flowers to Takiyuddin, who is recovering after undergoing heart surgery this week at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

The move comes in the wake of rising political temperatures sparked by a royal rebuke during the special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat last week, which has since been postponed due to the detection of Covid-19 cases in the Parliament vicinity.

The palace statement, which among others criticised Takiyuddin for pre-empting the Agong’s consent by announcing that the government would revoke the emergency ordinances, had also sparked calls from the opposition for his resignation, with accusations of “derhaka” (treachery) levelled against the PAS leader.

Yesterday, scores of opposition MPs led by Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim marched from Dataran Merdeka to the Parliament building, accusing Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin of committing “derhaka” against the Agong and demanding that he step down.
