98% of Covid-19 cases today in least dangerous categories, says health DG

Only 54 or 0.4% of the 12,541 cases reported as of noon are in need of respiratory assistance.

The overwhelming majority of Covid-19 cases recorded today are in the least dangerous categories, namely Categories One and Two, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says.

He said of the 12,541 cases reported as of noon, 6,504 or 51.9% were asymptomatic cases in Category One while 5,848 (46.6%) were in Category Two, exhibiting mild symptoms.

Another 49 cases were in Category Four, in need of oxygen, while 54 were in Category Five and in need of intubation.

There are presently 893,323 confirmed infections in the country, 114,053 of which are active.

Malaysia’s infectivity rate or Rt currently stands at 1.20 with Putrajaya recording the highest Rt value at 1.32.

It is followed by Terengganu (1.27), Kedah (1.23), Selangor and Penang (1.20 respectively), Negeri Sembilan (1.17), Kuala Lumpur (1.15), Melaka (1.14), Pahang (1.12), Johor, Kelantan and Perak (1.10 respectively) and Sabah (1.09).
