Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said that several neighbourhoods in Petaling Jaya would be placed under enhanced movement control order (EMCO), the strictest form of lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.

He said Mentari Court in PJS 8, the SS 91A housing area in Sungai Way, and the Westlite Apartments would come under EMCO from July 1 to 14.

He said the health ministry had recorded 137 cases at Mentari Court, 64 cases in SS 91A and 215 cases at the Westlite flats, with high transmissibility levels at all three locations.

“Having conducted a risk assessment with the agencies in the MCO technical committee and on the advice of the health ministry, the government has agreed to implement EMCO at these three locations,” he said in a statement.

He said Kampung Kubang Jela in Manir, Terengganu, would also be placed under EMCO until July 14, adding that 18 residents there had tested positive for Covid-19 with a positivity rate of 54.3%.

Likewise, Kampung Balung Cocos in Tawau, Sabah, which recorded nine positive cases with a positivity rate of 33.33% will come under EMCO from July 1 to 14, as well as the Pantai Ria People’s Housing Project and Taman Bukit Angkasa in Kuala Lumpur.

Ismail said 171 Covid-19 cases had been recorded at the Pantai Ria flats while 153 tested positive at Taman Bukit Angkasa.
