Police have issued a RM10,000 compound to an employer for letting his workers board his company bus in excess of 50% of the capacity permitted under the SOPs of the movement control order.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the compound was issued when police stopped the bus and found that it was ferrying 34 Bangladeshi construction site workers at Jalan Tun HS Lee at about 7.30am today.

He said public transportation vehicles are only allowed to carry 50% of their passenger capacity in accordance with the SOPs.

“The bus had a capacity of 44 passengers but the employer allowed 34 of them to board the bus. That’s 77% (which exceeds) the total capacity allowed.

“As such, we compounded the employer RM10,000 while the bus driver, a local 40-year-old, was issued a RM2,000 compound,” Zainal told reporters at the Tun HS Lee police station today.

Meanwhile, he said the compliance rate in the Dang Wangi district was satisfactory at 99%, with only 102 compounds issued for various SOP violations since June 1.
