Covid-19 infection among children and infants is a cause for concern as they have become the groups at risk after the elderly, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

He said the matter should be seen as a wake-up call and measures implemented to protect these groups from infection.

“Health ministry data shows that as of today, 48,261 children and infants have contracted Covid-19 and 6,290 of them are infants 18 months of age or younger.

“Therefore, parents must constantly monitor to ensure that their children do not play outside their homes, wear face masks and often use sanitiser,” he said in his daily statement on the movement control order.

Ismail said adults are responsible for protecting children and infants from getting infected with the virus.

Besides complying with the SOPs, he said, adults should subject themselves and their families to self-lockdown to avoid getting infected.
