Putrajaya has published a list of some 150 premises which could be potential Covid-19 hotspots ahead of the Hari Raya festivities, as part of the early warning system under Hotspot Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) to contain the pandemic.

Dominating the list are malls and department stores, including major shopping centres in the Klang Valley, alongside other locations such as markets, hotels, retail shops and mosques.

In a statement, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the publication of the list would help business and premise owners step up preventive measures in order to avoid becoming a flashpoint for the spread of Covid-19.

He said the list would also help authorities take pre-emptive intervention measures to prevent any new clusters.

“The public is advised to postpone visits to the listed locations or premises. If you still need to visit the location or premises, follow the guidelines that have been set and adopt the new norms,” Khairy said.

The premises are identified through HIDE’s analysis based on monitoring and forecast of the health ministry’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre.

Khairy said the list was critical in the fight to contain the pandemic as the country is facing a fierce rebound of daily cases, including more than 23,000 in the last one week, as well as a 21% increase in admissions to ICUs.
