The budget for the health ministry was passed after the debate at the committee level in the Dewan Rakyat today, making it the 18th ministerial allocation to be passed so far.

The RM31.94 billion budget was passed by voice vote.

The debate on the health ministry budget saw issues raised by MPs from both sides of the divide on the Covid-19 pandemic.

These include the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine, whether it has been tested, and when it will arrive in the country as neighbouring countries such as Indonesia have reportedly begun receiving their supply.

The budget for 2021 – RM322.5 billion, the country’s largest ever – was passed at the policy stage on Nov 26 in what was seen as a crucial test of support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

It was passed by voice vote after the opposition failed to garner enough support to force a bloc vote.
