Padang Rengas MP Nazri Aziz today retracted his decision in January not to support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, following a series of criticism by the veteran politician against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Nazri told Astro Awani today that he was declaring support for Muhyiddin.

“With this decision, the withdrawal of support that I made earlier is cancelled,” Nazri, who is currently in Europe, told the news channel.

Nazri revoked his support for Muhyiddin at a press conference on Jan 12.

His decision came days after Umno’s Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub announced he was no longer supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN), in the wake of a campaign by Zahid to quit the ruling coalition.

Nazri told MalaysiaNow last month that he had been tricked into withdrawing his support by Zahid, whom he claimed had orchestrated the move and then failed to retract his support for PN as well.

“He lied. Otherwise why would I want to withdraw my support for no reason? I honestly feel I was tricked,” he said.

He also said his present stand was to adhere to the decision made at the Umno general assembly earlier this year for the party to remain with the PN government until the 15th general election.

“I follow my party’s decision,” he said. “I am a party man, so I will follow.”
