Police have arrested two people who took part in a protest outside the US embassy in Kuala Lumpur, likely to fuel public anger over Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's decision to welcome President Donald Trump later this month.

Kamal Aarif Kamaruddin and Isa Azmi Zulkifli were arrested as they joined scores of others protesting Israel's attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, where about 200 people, including around a dozen Malaysians, have been detained by the Zionist army.

Their lawyer, Zaid Malek, said police are seeking to remand the pair for investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing police in carrying out their duties.

Earlier, a scuffle broke out when police tried to arrest protesters gathered in front of the US embassy, a regular site for many pro-Palestine demonstrations.

This comes ahead of another rally to be held at the same location tomorrow to protest Trump's visit on Oct 26 to attend the Asean Summit.

Anwar has rejected calls to cancel the invitation, amid growing anger over Trump's open support for Israel and his latest peace plan for Gaza.

Anwar's government, however, has welcomed the plan.

Earlier, Federal Territories mufti Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil came under fire from Muslims and pro-Palestinian supporters after his attempt to justify Anwar's red carpet welcome for Trump.

Fauwaz accused those opposed to Trump's presence as being clouded by "emotions and radical sentiments", adding that Muslims should welcome him in line with the Islamic principle of preserving peace.
