Terengganu logs biggest voter turnout, Kelantan lowest

Just under 75% of voters turned out in Terengganu, while Kelantan saw a little over 60%.

Terengganu recorded the highest voter turnout among the six states that conducted elections on Aug 12, at 74.79%.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh said this was followed by Kedah with 73.86%, Penang (72.67%), Selangor (72%), Negeri Sembilan (68.35%) and Kelantan (60.96%).

"The total voting percentage includes regular voters, early voters and postal voters who voted," he said in a statement today.

The Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election meanwhile recorded a voter turnout of 73.34%, he said.

Ghani added that for the Terengganu state polls, PAS swept all 32 seats contested.

In Kedah, Perikatan Nasional (PN) captured 33 out of 36 seats and Pakatan Harapan (PH) won three, while in Kelantan, PAS captured 43 out of 45 contested seats, with Barisan Nasional (BN) and PH getting one each.

In Penang, PH won 27 out of 40 contested seats, while in Selangor, PH won 32 out of 56 seats, while PN won 22 and BN got two.

In Negeri Sembilan, PH won 17 out of 36 seats, BN got 14 and PN got five.

In the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election, PAS recaptured the seat with its candidate Ahmad Amzad Hashim defeating PH candidate Azan Ismail with a majority of 47,266 votes.
