Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the coalition is confident of winning Selangor in the upcoming elections, citing a "wave of support" during a series of gatherings in the state recently.

Hamzah said he personally witnessed the overwhelming support and enthusiasm at a gathering in Tanjung Karang last night.

He said the crowd was not only comprised of Malays, whose support was seen as crucial for PN's gains in the general election last year, but also Indians and Chinese, whom he described as now standing together with PN.

"This wave can be seen in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. Now, the same wave is evident in Selangor and is gaining momentum in Negeri Sembilan and Penang.

"God willing, northern Selangor will become a stronghold for PN and will act as a catalyst to ensure Selangor is conquered in the polls on Aug 12," he said in a statement.

PN will announce its candidates for Selangor seats in Taman Medan Baru, Petaling Jaya, on July 26.

So far, the coalition has announced former domestic trade and consumer affairs secretary-general Jamil Salleh as its candidate for Dengkil, while Sepang Bersatu chief Suhaimi Ghazali is expected to contest in Sungai Pelek.

Selangor is seen as a frontline state in the elections on Aug 12, with both PN and the Pakatan Harapan-Umno alliance engaging in an aggressive series of ceramahs even before campaigning started.

PH, in various forms, has ruled Selangor since 2008, but this time it will fight hand in hand with Umno.
