Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has agreed to DAP's condition that the party gets to fill the position of Selangor speaker if Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins the coming state polls, in exchange for surrendering its Dusun Tua seat to Umno.

In the 2018 elections, Dusun Tua was won by DAP's Edry Faizal with a majority of more than 10,000 votes.

But this time, DAP was asked to make way for Umno, its new ally, which is joining hands with PH for the Aug 12 polls.

Umno has named Johan Abdul Aziz, who lost in the 2018 elections, as its candidate for Dusun Tua.

The seat is one of two previously won by PH that will now be contested by Umno, the other being Gombak Setia.

In 2018, DAP won 16 seats in Selangor, with one of its assemblymen, Sekinchan's Ng Suee Lim, appointed as the state assembly speaker.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said before agreeing to give up the Dusun Tua seat, the party had laid down a condition that the next speaker would not be an elected representative.

"And our suggestion is Lau Weng San," he said, referring to the incumbent for Banting, who will not be fielded in the coming elections.

"It is not a seat-for-seat exchange because BN (Umno) gained an additional two seats in Selangor," he told reporters after announcing the DAP candidates who will be contesting under PH in Selangor.

"The prime minister has agreed to the conditions," Loke added.
