Razarudin Husain will replace Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani as top cop, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed today.

He said Razarudin, who is currently the deputy inspector-general of police, would take over effective June 23.

Saifuddin said the appointment had received the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah after receiving advice from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.

The appointment is on a contractual basis for two years until June 22, 2025.

"Throughout Razarudin's service in the police force, he has held various positions at the state and contingent levels," he said.

Razarudin, 61, began his career in 1984 as an investigating officer attached to the Kedah criminal investigation department.

His other portfolios also include deputy commander of the Special Task Force on Organised Crime, CID chief of the Penang police contingent, deputy police commissioner of Sabah and Perak deputy police chief before he was promoted to lead the police force in the state.

He was appointed as the director of the Bukit Aman narcotics criminal investigations department for a year before becoming the Deputy IGP in 2021.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin in a separate announcement said Bukit Aman CID director Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has been appointed as the deputy inspector-general of police, also effective June 23.

He said that the Agong had consented to the appointment after receiving advice from Anwar on the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.

Ayob Khan, 57, started his service in 1993 at the Bukit Aman special branch from the rank of assistant superintendent of police to the rank of assistant commissioner of police.

Among his other posts were as the director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and Johor police chief.
