The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) has announced the termination of Md Nasir Ibrahim's contract as the CEO of the agency effective today, in a letter making the rounds on social media.

Nasir was appointed as Finas CEO for a period of two years from Nov 1, 2021, until Oct 30, 2023.

Finas said in a statement that the decision to terminate Nasir's contract was part of a move to revamp the organisation and bring about changes to the local film industry.

"This restructuring will involve realignment or recalibration of the policies, programmes and activities of the creative industry, especially the film industry.

"This initiative is hoped to be able to help Malaysian filmmakers produce quality films that have high local and international market value," it said.

Meanwhile, deputy director-general (management) of Finas, Rozita Waty Ridzuan, will assume the duties of the CEO until the position is filled.

Nasir was appointed to replace the agency's former CEO, Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri, who resigned and ended his tenure on Oct 15, 2021.
