The introduction of Menu Rahmah by the domestic trade and cost of living ministry benefits all Malaysians regardless of income and living standard, says its minister Salahuddin Ayub.

He said the initiative could ease the people’s burden and was meaningful to those in need.

Salahuddin said the programme offered premium meals, adding that the ministry would never allow traders to sell low-grade meals using poor quality ingredients.

"We didn’t name it the B40 menu as everyone can enjoy the meals… This is a menu for all... rahmah (blessings) for all," he said when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks on the royal address yesterday.

He said the initiative had received a good response from the people and traders including fast food chains and stalls at the rest and service areas along the North-South Expressway.

Salahuddin also said the initiative was part of the ministry's short-term target to ensure that no Malaysians are starving.

He added that the ministry still needs to establish cross-ministerial cooperation to tackle the cost of living issue.

"The economy ministry, finance ministry and National Action Council on Cost of Living are responsible for the cost of living, and we are working hard.

"This low-hanging fruit can be achieved now but to increase the people's income is the most comprehensive solution to tackle the issue," he added.
