The health ministry says it aims to retable the Control of Tobacco Products and Smoking Bill 2022 in the near future to allow its enforcement to begin next year.

In an answer published on the Parliament website, the ministry said it had conducted a review and would go ahead with the tabling of the bill with regards to the amendments agreed to by the special select committee through a statement published on Oct 5 last year.

This was in response to a question from Wong Chen (PH-Subang) who asked about the ministry's timeline for tabling the bill.

The bill was tabled for its first and second readings at the third meeting of the fifth term of the 14th Dewan Rakyat Session in August 2022.

It was then referred to a special select committee for review.

According to the health ministry, the tabling of the bill was delayed due to the dissolution of Parliament on Oct 10, 2022.
