Umno delegates attend the party's 2022 general assembly at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Jan 11.

The passing of a no-contest motion for the posts of president and deputy president during 2022 general assembly did not breach the party’s constitution or rules, says Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.

"Everything went smoothly. About 90% of the delegates agreed that the president and deputy president posts would not be contested.

"There have been many times in Umno's 77-year history that the positions were not contested," he said a Facebook post today.

On Jan 31, Umno met with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to explain the passing of the motion.

The meeting followed the actions of two Umno members, who on Jan 20 lodged complaints with the RoS for a review of the additional motion on no-contest for the top two posts approved during the general assembly.
