Kuala Lumpur named best city for expats in 2022

Kuala Lumpur is followed by Tbilisi, Lisbon and Dubai.

Kuala Lumpur has been named the best city for expats to live and work in this year, according to a new study conducted by online language learning platform Preply.

Its Global Expat Index which ranked 60 destinations on 11 relocation metrics including cost of living, salary and income tax, gave Kuala Lumpur an expat relocation score of 6.62 out of 10.

Kuala Lumpur was followed by Tbilisi in Georgia (6.58), Lisbon in Portugal (6.51), Dubai (6.45) and Bangkok (6.35). 

The study put monthly living costs for those relocating to Kuala Lumpur at about £903, while the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom property in the city was estimated at £363.

Other factors comprised the average internet speed, the number of attractions, the average cost of dining out, safety, visitor return rate, co-working costs, and the number of hours needed to learn the dominant language. 

Prague was listed at sixth place (6.32), followed by Madrid (6.27), Barcelona (6.21), Alicante (6.18) and Montreal (6.18).
