Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said that his Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) pact was ready to hold discussions with Perikatan Nasional (PN) on political cooperation heading into the 15th general election (GE15) although it remained to be seen whether such talks would bear fruit.

Referring to the call by PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin for opposition parties to consider renegotiating cooperation with the coalition, Mahathir said such discussions should involve all parties and NGOs in GTA.

"He (Muhyiddin) can come and discuss with us, but we do not know what the outcome will be," he told reporters after flagging off GTA’s Semangat Merdeka programme in Putrajaya.

Mahathir said Muhyiddin had met with him recently but that they had not talked about political cooperation.

He reiterated that GTA, which comprises Pejuang, Berjasa, Putra, Iman and NGOs, would fight against abuse of power and corruption, and champion Malay rights in a bid to form a clean government.

Mahathir said GTA would submit its application for registration with the Registrar of Societies on Sept 6.
