Malaysia's trade recorded a double-digit growth of 43.3% year-on-year in June 2022, even as the country battled the worst Covid-19 infections, according to figures released by the Department of Statistics.

Its total trade reached an all-time high of RM270.39 billion.

Exports increased 38.8% while imports increased 49.3% to RM124.23 billion, in a marathon growth over 22 months since September 2020.

The figures also show that total exports reached some RM146 billion last month.

International Trade and Industry Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali welcomed the development, saying it reflects a thriving domestic performance.

"With united determination and shared responsibility, I am confident Miti and Matrade (the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation) will maintain a positive momentum in facing the tide of boosting economic growth," he said.
