National track cyclist Mohd Azizulhasni Awang won the silver medal for the men’s keirin event at the Tokyo Olympics today.

He came in second behind Jason Kenny of Great Britain, beating Harrie Lavreysen of the Netherlands who took bronze.

This is Malaysia’s second medal after winning bronze in the men’s badminton doubles.

This was the fourth Olympic outing since the Beijing Games in 2008 for Azizulhasni, fondly known as the Pocket Rocketman.

Great Britain has won gold in every edition of the men’s keirin event since 2008.

Fellow Malaysian Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom missed out on the semi-finals after finishing last in Heat Two of the quarter-finals.

He had suffered injuries on Saturday after a collision with Britain’s Jack Carlin in Heat Two of the first round.
